Tullichewan Tenants & Residents Association Chairperson October 2026 Update
And just like that, Halloween hits us and a special mention to local group Time for Tully for hosting another successful event this week to mark the occasion for local children. Well done to Nicola, Kim, Lorraine and all those involved.
Where the above is a great positive example of our local community getting together, the opposite has shown its side in recent times.
Firstly, the concerning amount of rubbish in the streets is worrying. This goes beyond the general litter issues of food packaging which is the “norm.” Discarded/dropped items include used dog bags, dirty nappies, used tissues etc. Some of this is around the overflowing litter bins (which has been reported) but also sitting beside communal housing waste bins. While it is understood the frustration of the litter bins and the three-week refuse bin collection cycle, there is no excuse for this behaviour. When you see areas in play parks being affected it can be infuriating. Please be mindful in future and any complaints on this can be forwarded to Tullichewan TRA so it can be resolved quickly.
Secondly, we move onto fireworks. I am not referring to any activity within legal boundaries which can be unpopular, The focus is on the “random booms” during the night. An activity which clearly has one aim – to startle and disturb residents, many who are sensitive to loud noises for various reasons as well as scared pets. Of course, not a problem exclusive to Tullichewan and discussions of this large growing issue is at UK Government level. This was brought to Alexandria Community Council by Tullichewan TRA to keep this conversation active with the long-term of at least reducing the problem. “Operation Moonbeam,” an initiative to enhance public safety operated by Public Scotland is currently in operation with police patrols. Any issues around this can be forwarded to Tullichewan TRA.
On a more positive note, the Brew and Blether social women’s group has had a very successful “trial period” with a growing membership. Following an initial period of alternating between Tuesdays and Wednesdays on a fortnightly rotation (due to some Tuesdays being unable due to other events), it has been confirmed that the group will meet solely every second Wednesday 6pm to 8pm at Tullichewan Community Flat, 2/1 McGregor Walk. The group is run by Emma McKerry, Tullichewan TRA committee member and various activities have already taken place the group including artwork and relaxation. The group expands beyond the fortnightly meetings with activities such as walking, day trips and Christmas Fair. For more details you can contact via the Facebook page or call 01389 605364.
The Community Hub continues to meet every Sunday 1pm to 3pm at the Community Flat. The group is run by Tullichewan TRA committee member Jean Mackay, and the aim of the group is to have a social drop-in with a relaxed atmosphere to combat isolation and loneliness which effects some many in the community. Part of the upcoming activity is putting up the Christmas tree a bit earlier (1st November) to create a festive atmosphere. From past experiences, the tree will be set up in the main big room this year. For more information you can contact the Facebook page or call 01389 605364.
The next scheduled WDC walkabout is scheduled for Tuesday 3rd November 2pm outside 2 McGregor Walk. A mid-meeting on the findings will take place approximately 3 weeks later.
Recent complaints relate to long-running issues on fly tipping, bin collection issues, dog fouling, inconsiderate parking, garden maintenance and road repairs.
For any issues, please contact us so any issues can be raised if not already on the action sheet.
