ALEXANDRIA CC UPDATE – JULY 2025
***ALEXANDRIA CC UPDATE – JULY 2025*** Meetings have wound down for the summer holidays, but Alexandria Community Council remain very active.
The following issues that we have involved in through discussion and/or campaigning:
• Bank of Scotland Alexandria branch closure scheduled for March 2026 and the proposed Bank Hub for the area to replace this.
• First Bus service 1/1A changes (replacement services 204/205) which ended a direct route from Alexandria to Glasgow (having to change in Dumbarton).
• Changes to bus service 340 going from bus company to NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde (which now only operates between Vale of Leven and Royal Alexandra hospitals with no stops in between). Originally patients and staff only but after the campaign by Vale of Leven Hospital Watch, now has access to visitors as a compromise. Thanks to Jim Moohan for inviting Alexandria CC to be involved.
• Links with Alexandria BID Company (formerly Alexandria Traders Association)
• Links with Vale of Leven Trust.
• Currently planning on new notice boards in Alexandria Town Centre.
• Current discussion on a Community Plan for Alexandria – this includes the town centre.
• Links with West Dunbartonshire Community Council Forum.
• Discussions regarding Smollett Fountain lighting.
• Updates and concerns with regards to LIDL – many raising concerns about the road layout at its entrance/exit.
• Discussions with West Dunbartonshire Council on our concerns about the annual “budget savings”.
Of course, this list is not exhaustive, and we continue to work hard to improve the community of Alexandria with our working partners and local residents.
Next meeting takes place on Wednesday 20th August and agenda will be provided in advance. If anyone has any questions, please contact us. Thank you for your support.
Harry McCormack, Alexandria CC Secretary
