Alexandria CC Letter To First Glasgow Calling For Service 1/1a Route Reversal
Alexandria Community Council call for the service number 1/1A routes to return to its former route from Balloch to Glasgow via Alexandria. Following the change on 2nd March 2025, where this route was curtailed to Dumbarton and replaced by 204 and 205 services which run to Dumbarton ASDA, the local community of Alexandria and surrounding area has faced much inconvenience.
Issues include:
- Replacement bus services 204 and 205 run every 40 minutes in certain parts of their respective routes leaving some areas with inadequate service in comparison to before the change.
- Journey times extended due to having to change at Dumbarton for 1/1A.
- The hassle for passengers having to change at Dumbarton for 1/1A.
This includes timings of changes not being suitable.
When announced in early 2025, change was described by First Glasgow as “aiming at improving punctuality and enhancing local connections,” as expected this move has done the exact opposite for regular commuters who travel to work, school, important appointments etc. Many who have used this service for many years.
A recent poll created on our Notice Board page on Facebook asking, “First Glasgow - Service 1/1A – Do you want the former direct route from Balloch to Glasgow (via Alexandria) restored?” Over 200 respondents took part and 96% said “yes”.
Commuters have spoken and Alexandria Community Council recommends that they should be listened to.

Harry McCormack
