** CHRISTMAS LIGHTS IN ALEXANDRIA TOWN CENTRE **
** Christmas Lights in Alexandria Town Centre: Christmas 2023 **
Following some concern in the community, Alexandria CC contacted West Dunbartonshire Council Leader Martin Rooney to clarify position on Christmas Lights in Alexandria and the effect the "budget saving" would have.
Councillor Rooney's response:
"As you know this was a budget decision that was approved at the Council meeting on 1st March 2023. The savings was: RN15: Transfer the provision of Christmas lights to community groups or traders associations with assistance provided by the Council at switch on events.
The Chief Officer recognised that there might be a requirement to provide some assistance at switch on events, to those organisations that take on the responsibility for the provision of Christmas lights.
My understanding was that there would be no lighting unless a community or traders association took on this responsibility.
