Tullichewan Tenants & Residents Association: CHAIRPERSON UPDATE – JUNE 2023
The school summer holidays have begun so it is most frustrating that the local children’s play park at Bannachra Crescent has once again been heavily vandalised. This time the “basket swing” (previously referred to as the “big swing”) being totally damaged while the rubber surface around the roundabout being substantially damaged. Despite the efforts of many in the community including the Time For Tully group for improvements long term, there is not a lot for children in the area to do. Therefore this type of behaviour is very disappointing. No matter the blame of who is responsible but that has happened more than once and several times since the play park was created in very recent years and is angering the community. It is not funny nor clever and it has to stop. This will be added as part of future Walkabout route which will be discussed later in the update.
Another regular complaint is the apparent increase of littering, particularly in the case of used dog poo bags. Too many times there have been cases of bins being used when clearly full, causing litter to be scattered in the ground in the area and blowing into gardens etc. While the understanding of timelines of when the bins get emptied, it is still no excuse for this kind of behaviour. Please keep this in mind.
On a more positive note the planning for the Family Fun Day on 19th August is progressing well. We and Central Alexandria TRA (CATRA) have been discussing developments over the past month online and in person. The event which is taking place at Lomond Parish Church from 11am to 3pm have already got stalls all booked for the big hall. In the smaller hall there are currently developments to bring children games in the smaller hall and potentially some mini events outside. There will be free tea, coffee, juice and snacks for all who come on the day. Further announcements such as a tombola will be made in the next week or so.
