Community groups and charity organisations get a share of £1m in funding

Community groups in West Dunbartonshire have benefited from more than £987,319 in grants to support vulnerable and disadvantaged residents.

Funding of £25,000 from the Community Chest Grant Scheme was given to organisations to use for equipment, running costs, activities for children and older residents, community events, and activities for disabled children.

Groups also received more than £50,000 from the Social Transport Grant for projects to reduce social isolation and transport group members to and from clubs and activities.

A number of groups were directed to West Dunbartonshire Community Volunteer Service (WDCVS) where they received more than £386,000 in funding.

Dumbarton Common Good Fund gave out funding of £522,319 (91%) of the £575,718 budget to 23 organisations. The underspend of £53,894 on Town Centre management has been devolved to the Council’s Regeneration section and it is anticipated that the balance will be fully spent within this financial year.

Alcoholics Anonymous was given more than £24,000 and West Dunbartonshire Community Foodshare received £18,000. Funding of £40,000 was also given to West Dunbartonshire Citizen’s Advice Bureau and £10,000 to Dumbarton Senior Citizens.

Councillor William Rooney, Convener of Corporate Services, said: “It is pleasing to see so many of our dedicated voluntary and charity organisations benefiting from the funding. We know how hard these organisations work to support some of the most vulnerable residents across West Dunbartonshire and this money will be a great benefit to the people who rely on these services.”

Councillor Lawrence O’Neill, Vice Convener of Corporate Services, said: “Community groups and voluntary organisations rely on funding to sustain the great work carried out by these groups. Their dedication to the people who rely on their services is paramount and is clearly making a difference to the lives of many residents across West Dunbartonshire.”
