Tullichewan Tenants & Residents Association: CHAIRPERSON UPDATE – APRIL 2024
And it’s gone. The month of April was a busy one for Tullichewan TRA in the sun, rain and everything in between. Tough times continue for many in the community and West Dunbartonshire Council has declared a “housing emergency”. The “Cost of Living Crisis” bites more and more.
However, I’m pleased to say that Tullichewan Community Flat’s usage has grown considerably over the past year and it’s great to see it bustling with some much activity.
Outside of Tullichewan TRA admin and meetings, the flat is currently being facilitated for:
Knit and Natter
Time For Tully
West Dunbartonshire Tenants & Residents Organisation (WDTRO)
Councillor Hazel Sorrell Surgery
Alexandria Community Council
The above list shows that the Community Flat has grown to be an important hub for the area of Tullichewan and look forward to more progress in the future.
Two walkabout events took place this month. The first one, which is hosted WDC Housing Operations took place on Thursday 4th April with the focus on ongoing developments of previous complaints/requests. The second one, Tullichewan TRA’s first hosted one, took place on Wednesday 17th April focussed on the park areas with one new complaint/request documented.
As part of the walkabout process, an online “mid-meeting” discusses the list of items raised and the updates on them.
There is no pretending that some updates can be frustratingly slow but in the main, most are resolved in time and Tullichewan TRA feel that the process is working well.
Next WDC walkabout has been scheduled for Thursday 16th May 2pm. Tullichewan TRA’s own walkabout will be announced in the next week or so.
Thanks to Kevin McCrossan, Elaine Wyllie and Shaun Duffy of WDC Housing for their regular partnership working with us as well as all the WDC department representatives who have been involved either through the walkabouts themselves or updates alone.
Tullichewan TRA’s current ongoing commitments:
• Monthly committee meetings on the last Tuesday of each month (except July and December)
• Enquiries – including anti-social behaviour, repairs, waste services and general signposting advice.
• Free dog poo bag and food waste bag service.
• Representation at West Dunbartonshire Tenants & Residents Organisation (WDTRO) – monthly.
• Representation at WDC/WDTRO Liaison Meeting – bimonthly.
• Representation at WDC Joint Rent Group – monthly (except July)
• Representation at Alexandria Community Council – 6 weekly.
• Representation at Pre-Housing and Communities Committee (Pre-HACC) Forum – quarterly.
Tullichewan TRA thank tenants and residents, West Dunbartonshire Council Tenant Participation (Jane Mack and Ana Deevy), West Dunbartonshire Council Housing, Councillors Gurpreet Johal and Hazel Sorrell (Convener and Vice-Convener of Housing), Time for Tully, Knit and Natter as well as other working partners for their support. Special acknowledgements to West Dunbartonshire Tenants & Residents Organisation (WDTRO) and Alexandria Community Council who help strengthen links in the local area.
Looking forward.
Harry McCormack, Tullichewan TRA Chairperson
