ALEXANDRIA CC UPDATE – JANUARY 2025
It is over 2 years since our re-establishment as a Community Council, which covers the town area of Alexandria. So much has happened since our last update, so I will summarise the previous year:
We continue to meet approximately every 6 weeks at Alexandria Community Centre.
We continue to receive full support from West Dunbartonshire Council Communities Team – Colin Smith, Stephen Burns and other colleagues.
Full support and representation from Central Alexandria Tenants & Residents Association (CATRA) and Tullichewan Tenants & Residents Association.
Continuing link-up with Alexandria Traders Association on topics/events such as the Business Improvement District Bid (BID), Alexandria Market and Christmas Event represented by Sian Wilkie at our meetings.
Strengthening links with the Vale of Leven Trust, including promotion of events and groups in the town, with representation and support from Shirley McAlpine.
Alexandria Traders Association and the Vale of Leven Trust have done a fantastic job as a partnership with the Alexandria Market and in particular the successful Christmas Market that took place last December. Through this endeavour Christmas lights were brought back to the town and brought much fun to many families and boosted many local businesses. Thanks to you and all who were involved in this.
Continued representation with the West Dunbartonshire Community Council Forum where CCs around the local authority get together to talk about ongoing issues. This is held quarterly throughout the year.
Continued involvement in discussions in monitoring the now completed Mitchell Way demolition and Smollett Fountain upgrade projects.
Continuing enquiries including Christie Park facilities, parking issues, road works and traffic management, refuse and recycling, health and safety, Alexandria Post Office, alleged fly-tipping at car park across Alexandria railway station.
Continuing partnership with Alan Hubner, Aehweb on the continuing development of the Alexandria Town website.[External]
Facebook page continues to grow with over 300 members and 500 followers. As previously posted the Alexandria CC Notice Board has grown considerably as a local information and network tool for businesses, groups and individuals. Over 5,000 members.
Our second Annual General Meeting which took place on Wednesday 11th December with no significant changes to the Community Council membership.
Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 29th January and agenda will be posted a week in advance.
Many thanks for your support; Alexandria CC really appreciate the community spirit and pride in the area and is looking forward to continuing working hard for the town. Harry McCormack, Secretary
